Founded in 1964 by Prof.
Abdus Salam
(Nobel Laureate), the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) operates under two
United Nations Agencies - the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organisation (UNESCO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and is regularised by a
seat agreement with the Government of Italy which provides the major part of the
Centre's funding.
